The Palablu was inaugurated in September 1996.
The amphitheatre stand embraces the main pool, the largest of all, used for public presentations. There are 1,500 seats all of which guarantee a perfect direct line of vision of the pool and the opposite beach used by the training team as a demonstration ground.
To the side of the main pool there are other 3 pools which are all interconnected, for a total of 4,000 m³ of water.
These pools have been engineered to facilitate the work of the researchers so that they can use their sophisticated underwater equipment as a nursery and to carry out routine medical investigations.
Filtering is achieved by means of a sand-system: 10 multilayer filters and 11 pumps work 24 hours a day and clean the water entirely every 3 hours. Bacteria are eliminated with UV rays that are used as an additional water disinfection means.
